Computer Courses
The Education Exchange offers a variety of day and evening computer classes throughout Southern Rhode Island. Courses include: Computer Basics, Introduction to the Internet, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and QuickBooks.
Computer Basics - Covers the fundamentals of hardware, most common software applications and accessing the Internet. Program designed for beginners who want more than just an overview and are seeking computer skills in to gain employment or to improve their employment. Basic literacy skills assessment is required for program participation.
Introduction to the Internet - Provides the fundamental tools you will need to be able to navigate the internet and communicate through cyberspace.
Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) - Microsoft Certified Application Specialists are a part of a global community of distinguished achievers. This Micrsoft certification credential tells the world you have demonstrated proficiency in the newest standard of the world's foremost desktop computing applications. Microsoft certifications (based on globally recognized standards) demonstrated your computing skills and help advance your career prospects in a competetive job market. Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certifications are primarily for office workers who use Microsoft Office programs as a vital part of theirjob functions. These certifications cover the entire Microsoft Office Suite, encompassing: Word 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Excel 2007, and Outlook 2007. Whether professionally, academically, or personally, Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certifications give you the skills to succeed!
Microsoft Word I - Offers the basic information needed to create and work with Word documents. Topics include basic functions such as: open, create, save, edit, find/replace, navigation tips (using keystroke shortcuts such as cut/paste, copy/paste, print fonts, tabs, bullets, margins, etc.).
Microsoft Word II - Presents more advanced functions such as: document templates, inserting tables, symbols, and charts, tracking document changes, document password protection, and using the mail merge feature.
Microsoft Excel I – Provides the tools necessary to design a spreadsheet, use the tool bar, and create formulas, number and text formatting. Working knowledge of the PC is helpful.
Microsoft Excel II- This is a continuation of what was learned in MS Excel I. Expands knowledge of Excel spreadsheets to produce reports, use different formulas, create charts, and sort and filter data. Prior completion of MS Excel I or equivalent knowledge is required.
Microsoft PowerPoint I- Students will learn to use effectively PowerPoint for a variety of presentations. Find out how the pros create those fancy presentations.
Microsoft PowerPoint II – An introduction to more advanced formatting and impact-enhancing tools for your presentations. Among the skills learned are: using design templates, replacing fonts, and enhancing graphics; inserting sounds, clip art, movies, and hyperlinks (including E-mail links); balancing style and substance in presentations; understanding the basics of design presentation - what works and what does not to make your presentation click with your target audience.
QuickBooks I- This course is designed for small businesses - whether your place of business is your home, your car, an office or conventional work site. If you are an owner, manager, bookkeeper or someone who manages personnel and finances in your business this course is for you. You will set up a company, hands-on, from start to finish in QuickBooks and learn how to work with lists, chart of accounts, invoices, payments, bank reconciliations, and more! You must have basic computer knowledge to enroll in this class.
QuickBooks II - Have you been using QuickBooks for a while or self-taught? Learn how to use the features found in payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory. Find out how to handle sales tax, invoice customers, make journal entries, work with the item list, customize jobs & vendors, receive and post payments; perform job and class tracking and more! Learn the tricks to help you manage your business better. Basic computer knowledge & attendance at a QuickBooks Introduction Course are required prerequisites.
