Adult Education in South County RI Learning For Life
Our Mission To provide ongoing educational tools and opportunities that are informative, relevant, and responsive to the needs of individuals, families, and businesses in South County and the larger Rhode Island community.
Our Vision The Education Exchange is a leader in connecting individuals and businesses in the Rhode Island community to educational services that improve lives and achieve workforce goals.
Our History The 1960s and 1970s resulted in a demand for a better-educated populace and in 1978 the Washington County Adult Learning Center was established.
The Education Exchange began life in January 1978 as the Washington County Adult Learning Center or WCALC, part of the Chariho Regional School District. Adults who had been out of school for years came to classes in solid numbers and in the first two years 534 candidates graduated. On July 1, 2003, after 26 years of operation, more than 12,000 clients and 4,000 GED graduates, the Washington County Adult Learning Center became an independent organization. Over the years the demand for convenient adult education services resulted in more expansion of class offerings, locations, and teaching staff.
In March 2006, the corporate name was officially changed from Washington County Adult Learning Center to the Education Exchange.
There are many Volunteer opportunities available at the Education Exchange. We have a great need for teacher assistants in the classroom, one-on-one tutors with students, Board members, plus assistance with committees – public relations & fundraising, grant writing, general office help and outreach in the community.
